Rehabilitation Services

The Rehabilitation Services Department offers physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services to its patients. Here the staff aims to restore patients to an independent functioning level, reduce pain and improve their quality of life as they recover or adjust to their condition. Rehabilitative efforts are coordinated with any other medical or surgical care the patient is currently receiving. It is the goal of this department to allow the patient to take an active, informed role in the management of his or her care.

The Rehab Services clinics have the capability of meeting a wide variety of patient needs through all therapy disciplines (Physical, Occupational and Speech). Through careful evaluation and individual treatment programs, our therapists assist patients in returning to their normal life-style.

Acute Care Rehab Services

The inpatient Rehab Services Department at St Bernards consist of all therapy disciplines (Physical, Occupational, and Speech) working together in an effort to return patients to normal and productive lives.

Through careful evaluation and individual treatment programs, our therapists can treat existing problems and provide preventative healthcare tips for individuals with a wide variety of needs. Our therapy team can manage diagnoses including strokes, orthopedic injuries, neurological problems, and other health issues that interfere with the patient’s ability to function in daily life.

Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation

The Outpatient Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation department offer state of the art equipment and individualized treatment programs for patients with orthopedic and neurological diagnosis. Isokinetic testing and training equipment, aquatic therapy and surface EMG are used routinely with orthopedic and sports related injuries. The department also offers programs for patients with vestibular problems utilizing the Balance Master for evaluation and treatment. Pelvic floor dysfunction and treatment of incontinence is also provided within our facilities. Occupational Therapy

St Bernards Occupational Therapy department offers technology for the evaluation and rehabilitation of the hand-injured or orthopedic-injured patient. Our Licensed Therapists work closely with the referring physician to maximize the rehabilitation potential. Through purposeful activity, Occupational Therapist assist patients in maximizing their independence and return to a productive and satisfying lifestyle. Patients suffering from a variety of conditions including neurological problems, orthopedic injuries, arthritis, open wounds, and burns may benefit from this service. Hand Therapy

Hand Therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation for the upper limb which includes the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder girdle. St Bernards Certified Hand Therapist merges Occupational and Physical Therapy practices in the rehabilitation of upper limb function and activity. Using specialized skills assessment, planning and treatment, our Hand Therapists provide therapeutic interventions to prevent dysfunction, restore function, and reverse progression of pathology of the upper limb in order to enhance an individual’s ability to perform activities of daily activity. There are currently 26 Certified Hand Therapist in Arkansas and St Bernards proudly have three on staff.

Speech Pathology

A Speech Pathologist offers evaluation and treatment of deficits in articulation, auditory comprehension/ expressive language, fluency, voice, cognition, and swallowing. These services are available to those who exhibit communication and/or swallowing deficits secondary to illness, injury, or developmental delay. In addition to the services, our outpatient speech services offer treatment for the Head and Neck Cancer population, regarding voice restoration and swallowing deficits from diagnosis to remission. This increases quality of life for patients and strives to enhance the individual’s prior level of function throughout the process. All patients receive an individual therapy program in order to maximize the potential for complete rehabilitation. Vital Stim Therapy is also available and utilized by our certified inpatient, outpatient, and home health therapists for difficulty swallowing or dysphagia.

Industrial Rehabilitation

Physical Therapy Services are offered so that injured employees can return to work as soon as possible with low risk of re-injury. Services include upper extremity rehabilitation, work hardening, work conditioning, functional capacity evaluation, and progressive lifting evaluation. Educational programs are also available, on-site, for topics such as exercise, posture and lifting mechanics, and prevention of musculoskeletal injury.

Comprehensive rehabilitative services:

St. Bernards Sports Medicine employs an outstanding team of clinicians skilled in the latest treatment techniques of all orthopedic and sports-related injuries. Our therapists have extensive backgrounds in sports and routinely see injured athletes from every sport. We take pride in providing preventative, post-operative, and rehabilitative care to Northeast Arkansas. St. Bernards also provides an extended rehabilitation to patients that require lengthy rehabilitation programs. St. Bernards is also the proud provider of rehabilitative services to all ASU athletic teams and Williams Baptist College athletics.

Clinic facilities:

St. Bernards Sports Medicine Clinic is an 8,000 square foot state-of-the-art outpatient rehabilitation facility located within the St. Bernards Health & Wellness Institute that features a fully-equipped, spacious, therapeutic, indoor aquatic therapy pool, a Biodex System3 isokinetic unit for sports-specific testing, and a dedicated Sports Performance laboratory for Return-To-Play activities and testing.

On-field athletic training coverage:
  • We provide an exclusive certified athletic trainer at Jonesboro, Nettleton, Valley View, Brookland , Westside, and Wynne to ensure that a qualified healthcare professional is available at all times to the athletes. These trainers are on the sidelines at the games, oversee practices, travel to tournaments, and provide many other services throughout the athletic season.
  • Our certified athletic trainers perform on-the-field evaluations and arrange for the appropriate medical attention. They also follow the athlete during their injury episode until the athlete is cleared for return to sports, ensuring a seamless transition from injured to healthy.
Yearly sports physicals:

We organize an all-inclusive evening of school sports physicals in the spring each year at the St. Bernards Medical Group Health & Fitness EXPO to ensure that all of our athletes receive comprehensive screenings and assessments by the best doctors in Northeast Arkansas. Each athlete is evaluated by medical specialists at NO COST to the athletes’ parents.

Coaches clinics/Running clinics:

Throughout the year we offer educational sports-related clinics to the public and to our area coaches. We feel an obligation to bring current knowledge to Northeast Arkansas about injury prevention and management.
