Leadership Team

Paul Pickens, Director
Paul Pickens, a 1992 graduate of Arkansas State University, has been named director of the St. Bernards Health & Wellness Institute. A native of Blytheville, AR, he most recently served as district director for the MidSouth Business Unit, Staffmark, with oversight of offices in Northeast Arkansas, Southwest Tennessee and Mississippi. At the Health & Wellness Institute he will be responsible for overall operation and will oversee a large team of fitness professionals, ensuring they deliver expert instruction and guidance to the members of the facility. He is active in community and professional groups, Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Northeast Arkansas Society for Human Resource Management Association. Paul and his wife, Laura, have two children, Caroline, 10, and John Paul, 9.

Deania Vanhoozer, Sales & Operations Manager
Deania Vanhoozer has been a part of the St. Bernards family since 2001, and she serves as HWI's Sales & Operations Manager. Vanhoozer, who earned her Bachelor of Science in business from Arkansas State University, provides day-to-day leadership for the Sales & Kids Club staff. She works with other departments to plan and implement programs and services within the sales and operations areas. When the Jonesboro native isn't spending time with her husband, Rodney, and their two children, Dylan and Drew, she spends much of her time volunteering.

Pat Baker, Business Office Manager
Pat Baker serves as the Busines Office Manager and is a recent addition to St. Bernards and the HWI team. With 15 years of management experience and 23 years in sales and two years of fitness experience, she is well-qualified to lead the front desk and Fit Shop on the Mile. Baker hails from Union City, Tenn. and has a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from the University of Tennessee – Martin. She and her husband, Wayne, have two children, Austin and Brett.

Amanda Heringer, Programs & Exercise Physiology Coordinator
Amanda Heringer is the Programs & Exercise Physiology Coordinator. After earning her Bachelor of Science in human and enviornmental sciences, education and health professions from the University of Arkansas, she went on to get her Master's in exercise science from Arkansas State University. She provides professional fitness service to members and clients and coordinates the health assessment evaluation process and medical membership program. Heringer is a Jonesboro native and loves spending time with her husband, Brad.

Nikki Shannon, Land & Aquatics Coordinator
Nikki Shannon is the Land & Aquatics Coordinator at HWI. She earned her Bachelor of Science in health and human performance at the University of Lousiville and her Master's degree in sports administration from Marshall University. She has long-prepared for her role here, the former swim coach was a collegiate rower and team captain in college, and is a certified pool operator. Shannon will be responsible for the daily operations of the aquatics department, programs and staffing. She and her husband, Bubba, also operate BubbaNix's catering in Jonesboro.
