Behavioral Health Services and Psychiatric Care:
Your mental and behavioral health is just as crucial to your overall wellbeing as your physical health. At St. Bernards, we understand the importance of maintaining mental and behavioral health, so we offer private mental and behavioral health services to twenty-three counties in Northeast Arkansas and Missouri. Patients can also receive support or care through our inpatient services at St. Bernards Behavioral Health Unit or outpatient services at St. Bernards Counseling Center.

Emergency Behavioral Health Screenings
In times when a person is in crisis, St. Bernards offers inpatient behavioral health care screenings through the Emergency Department 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, primary care physicians, medical centers, and mental health agencies can also make referrals for direct admission to St. Bernards Behavioral Health.

Craighead County Crisis Stabilization Unit
The Crisis Stabilization Unit located in Craighead county has been established to serve those in need during a mental health crisis. The best candidates are those who do not have an acute medical issue and are not actively suicidal or homicidal. Anyone with these feelings should call 911 or report to the nearest Emergency Room.

Who are some of the people that the Craighead County Crisis Stabilization Unit Helps?
• Individuals 18 and older with a mental health impairment that want help or are willing to receive help (mental health impairment is defined in Act 423 as a substantial impairment of emotional processes, the ability to exercise conscious control of one’s actions, or the ability to perceive reality or to reason, when the impairment is manifested by instances of extremely abnormal behavior or extremely faulty perceptions that interfere with one (1) or more activities of daily living.)
• Individuals experiencing trauma (crime victims, crime witnesses, severe distress and unable to cope safely at home).
• Those experiencing severe distress due to significant loss or traumatic life events (death, losing custody of children, etc)
• Those impacted by other trauma events or displaying severe emotional shock and needing emergency mental health care
• Individuals experiencing hopelessness, contemplating suicidal thoughts or homicidal thoughts, experiencing agitation, hallucinations, delusions, and with arbitrary levels of drugs/alcohol.

Behavioral Health Unit - Inpatient
The Behavioral Health Unit is located in Jonesboro and provides inpatient care for adults suffering from behavioral or psychiatric health disorders. Our patients are the heart of our mission, which is why our 62-bed acute care center is divided into two specialized areas- one for adults, 18 to 64 years of age, and one for geriatric patients, age 65 and older. Our staff uses a comprehensive approach when it comes to caring for our patients. The Behavioral Health unit staff comprises four on-site psychiatrists, nurses, and licensed therapists who work cohesively to develop individualized treatment plans for patients keeping in mind the importance of patients' dignity and privacy.

- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a treatment for depression when medications are not producing the desired results. Clinical data reports higher response and remission rates than medication: 83% response and 62% remission.
TMS is an FDA-cleared non-invasive outpatient procedure. The process uses a pulsed magnetic field to stimulate function in areas of the brain that affect mood. The treatments are 20–minute sessions over a period of four to six weeks. As there are no side effects for this treatment, patients can immediately return to normal activities following, including driving after treatment.
