The Medi-Pak Advantage PPO Program will partner with St. Bernards Health & Wellness to host some special activities during National Active Aging Week Sept. 22-26.
The week is an annual health promotion initiated by the International Council on Active Aging to celebrate adults 50 years of age and older as active members of society. It promotes the benefits of leading an active, healthier lifestyle and highlights the ability of older adults to live well regardless of age or health conditions.
Special events are planned for each day at St. Bernards Health & Wellness, 1416 East Matthews Ave. Those include:
Monday, Sept. 22 – Open house from 8 a.m. until noon – Health & Wellness classroom.
Tuesday, Sept. 23 – 9 a.m. – “Take Care of Your Feet!” presented by Dr. Michael Haughey, podiatrist with The Podiatry Group in Jonesboro, followed by Tips on purchasing shoes, socks, etc. presented by Seth Freeman with Gearhead Outfitters – Health & Wellness classroom.
Wednesday, Sept. 24 – 9 a.m. – “Live Healthy, Live Happy” presented by Karan Summitt, St. Bernards health educator and author of the “Diet Gal” newspaper column –Health & Wellness classroom.
Thursday, Sept. 25 – 10 a.m. – “Benefits of an Active Lifestyle” presented by Dr. Thomas Mulligan, medical director for Medi-Pak Advantage PPO and a geriatrician at St. Bernards Senior Health Clinic – Health & Wellness classroom.
Friday, Sept. 26 – 10 a.m. –“Fuel Up to Move!” a cooking and food demonstration presented by Karan Summitt – Health & Wellness classroom.
Wednesday also will be Free Visit Wednesday at Health and Wellness, with personnel on hand to give tours of the facility. Visitors can take part in Silver Sneakers classes or other classes or work out using the fitness facilities.
St. Bernards Health & Wellness offers a wide variety of classes every day of the week that attract Silver Sneakers members, including some that are specifically designated as Silver Sneakers classes. However, St. Bernards Health & Wellness Silver Sneakers members can participate in any class or use any of the fitness facilities at no charge.
Programs during National Active Aging Week are open to the interested public free of charge.
