October Community Screenings, Lunch & Learn Will Focus on Preparing for Flu Season

St. Bernards will offer a community Lunch & Learn as well as community screenings on Friday, Oct. 14, at St. Bernards Health & Wellness, 1416 East Matthews Ave.

From 7 until 10 in the morning area residents can take advantage of free screenings for total cholesterol, anemia, glucose, blood pressure, height/weight/body fat percentage and body mass index.

Additional tests will be available for minimal fees and include full lipid panel (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides), $8.50; hemoglobin A1C (average blood sugar over three months), $6.50; and PSA (prostate specific antigen) for men 40 and older, $12.50.

Fasting for lab testing is strongly encouraged for 6 to 8 hours before the lab draw to increase accuracy of test results.

The October Lunch & Learn will focus on “Flu and You – The Importance of Preparing for the Flu Season.” It will be led by St. Bernards community educators Jennifer Wharton and Allie Pattillo. That program is scheduled for noon until 1 p.m. and will include a free heart-healthy lunch.

Persons interested in attending the Lunch & Learn area asked to make reservations by Tuesday, Oct. 11, by calling the St. Bernards HealthLine at 870-207-7300.

The program is sponsored by St. Bernards Healthcare and Genentech.

Both events will be in the conference room at Health & Wellness.
