Dr. Donald M. Berry, long-time Jonesboro OB-GYN who was on the St. Bernards Medical staff for 44 years, is the honoree at the 2013 Evening of Music presented by the St. Bernards Foundation.
Berry is a Jonesboro native and a second generation Jonesboro physician is a graduate of Arkansas State University. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and served in the Air Force before opening a practice in Jonesboro in 1967.
Initially he had a solo practice, but in the early 1970s, he and Drs. John Kirkley and John St. Clair joined together to establish OB-GYN Associates (now St. Bernards OB-GYN Associates). He served on the St. Bernards medical staff and practiced here for more than four decades before retiring in 2011.
He and his wife, the former Wanda Lee Tate (also of Jonesboro), have two sons, Michael and Daren. Michael is a surgical breast oncologist at The West Clinic in Memphis, and Daren owns Medical Solutions, a home medical supply firm in Jonesboro. Michael and his wife Karen have three children – Sheridan, 17; Christian, 15; and Charolotte, 9. Daren and his wife Stacie have two children – Jenna, 9, and Kaylee, 6.
Though his is retired, he still does some consulting on bone density studies, and he is serving as the chairman of the Foundation’s capital campaign to build The Villa, a new Level II Assisted Living facility with a dedicated memory unit for Alzheimer’s patients.
He is being honored for his long-standing and unswerving support for St. Bernards.
