St. Bernards Physicians Honor Pulmonology, Critical Care Specialist Dr. Josh Morrison for Outstanding Care in 2023
Physicians practicing at St. Bernards Medical Center voted Pulmonology and Critical Care Specialist Dr. Josh Morrison their 2023 Living The Mission Award recipient, an honor given to a doctor who best represents the St. Bernards mission of providing Christ-like healing.
Dr. Morrison serves as one of four Pulmonologist physicians at St. Bernards Clopton Clinic and St. Bernards Medical Center. A native of Jonesboro, he returned to Northeast in Arkansas in 2015 after completing a Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine Training fellowship with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. At St. Bernards, Dr. Morrison has earned a reputation for working behind the scenes, providing compassionate care to critically ill patients with lung diseases and life-threatening conditions.
The award, announced Monday during St. Bernards’ annual medical staff meeting at St. Bernards Auditorium in Jonesboro, involves a selective process that begins with nominations submitted by any of St. Bernards’ 4,600-plus team members. A selection committee pares the nominees to three before the 200-plus physicians themselves vote a winner by submitting secret ballots.
St. Bernards Vice President for Medical Affairs, Dr. Kasey Holder, presented the award. She noted Dr. Morrison’s intellect and abilities practicing medicine, but added that he is known for more than his skill as a physician.
“He swings by my office often, and the first thing he always says is, ‘Do you need anything?’” Dr. Holder said. “And he means it. He truly has a servant’s heart. He is humble, selfless, kind and well-deserving of this award.”
Beyond his work caring for patients, Dr. Morrison spends time enhancing the care provided at St. Bernards as a whole. He serves as the associate program director for the St. Bernards Internal Medicine Residency Program, educating and training the next generation of physicians. He also serves as assistant medical director for the quality and safety departments at St. Bernards and as chair of multiple continuing education provider (CEP) committees.
One of Dr. Morrison’s Pulmonology colleagues, Dr. Jeff Cohen, describes him as a low-key and humble person who does not seek attention or recognition for his work.
“Dr. Morrison is a dedicated and hard-working professional who balances his demanding job with his family life,” Dr. Cohen said. “He is conscientious and reliable, always putting his patients’ needs first and treating everyone with respect and dignity. He is a valuable member of the medical community and a role model for many.”
Dr. Morrison and his wife of 18 years, Marie, have four children—Andrew, Colette, Levi and Penelope.
