Electrophysiologist Dr. Sharath Vipparthy Joins St. Bernards Heart and Vascular
Electrophysiologist Dr. Sharath Vipparthy joined the heart and vascular team practicing at St. Bernards Medical Center, diagnosing and treating conduction problems of the heart.
Dr. Vipparthy arrives at St. Bernards after completing fellowships in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Cardiovascular Medicine in Illinois, where he also completed his medical residency. Dr. Vipparthy earned his medical degree in his home country of India, working and training there as well as in Singapore.
Dr. Vipparthy said a family connection inspired him to practice medicine.
“Growing up, I was always inspired by my grandfather, who was a medical practitioner,” Dr. Vipparthy said, “Over the years, I was drawn to electrophysiology by the rapid advancements in the field. It has completely changed the treatment of patients with arrhythmias.”
As an electrophysiologist at St. Bernards, Dr. Vipparthy helps patients experiencing fast (tachycardia), slow (bradycardia) and other irregular heartbeats. The CDC estimates that one of the more common tachycardias, Atrial fibrillation (AFib), will affect more than 12 million people in the U.S. by 2030. Annually, AFib contributes to more than 450,000 hospitalizations and about 158,000 deaths nationwide.
Dr. Vipparthy said he is grateful to join an award-winning, comprehensive heart care team at St. Bernards that now includes three electrophysiologists.
“I’m glad to have joined this team,” Dr. Vipparthy said. “They’re not just able to cater to the local patient population’s needs, but they’re also at the center of advancing heart care itself.”
Dr. Vipparthy holds board certifications in Cardiovascular Medicine and Internal Medicine. Dr. Vipparthy lives in Jonesboro with his wife, Dr. Soumyasri Kambhatla, a rheumatologist with St. Bernards, and their two children.
