St. Bernards Medical Center announced the arrival of Wound Healing Specialist Alexandria “Alex” Barnett, M.D., who joins the medical team at St. Bernards Wound Healing.
Dr. Barnett, a native of Paragould, has spent the past four years as a Family Medicine Resident Physician with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Northeast in Jonesboro. Dr. Barnett graduated medical school from UAMS in Little Rock in the top 10 percent of her class, receiving her Doctor of Medicine in 2019.
With St. Bernards Wound Healing offering four locations throughout Northeast Arkansas, she expressed her excitement to continue practicing medicine in the region, including her hometown.
“I love this state, region and city,” Dr. Barnett said. “They’ve always been my home, equipping me professionally and personally. I look forward to serving here.”
As a wound care specialist, Dr. Barnett will treat a variety of acute and chronic wounds, including those sustained through injury, surgery, ulcers, radiation and disease. Patients often receive referrals to this type of specialist if their wounds do not heal within one month of conventional therapy.
Dr. Barnett said her practice will include the most current and recommended wound healing treatments, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy; all tailored to the specific needs of her patients.
“Skin provides one of our best protective barriers,” Dr. Barnett said. “As a physician, I’m passionate about restoring that exterior so my patients can continue living confidently and healthy.”
St. Bernards Wound Healing Medical Director Anthony Lamkin, M.D. said Dr. Barnett’s arrival bolsters a talented and compassionate wound healing team.
“She’s from this region, so she understands what our patients need here,” Dr. Lamkin said, “Beyond that, Dr. Barnett possesses the necessary training, skills and experience to help people on the road to recovery. She’s an incredible addition to the St. Bernards Wound Healing team.”
Dr. Barnett holds professional memberships with the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association and the American Medical Women’s Association. In her spare time, Dr. Barnett enjoys watching the Arkansas Razorbacks and spending time with friends and family at the lake. She lives in Paragould with her husband, Dylan, also a physician with St. Bernards, and their son Hayes.
