Orthopedic Surgeon Asa Shnaekel, M.D., M.P.H. has joined the surgical team with Jonesboro Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine (JOSM) practicing at St. Bernards Medical Center. Dr. Shnaekel arrives at St. Bernards after completing a fellowship with the Southern Joint Replacement Institute in Nashville, Tenn. focusing on hip and knee replacements.
Dr. Shnaekel earned his doctorate of medicine (M.D.) from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock in 2016, graduating with honors for his work in research. In addition to earning an M.D., he also earned a master of public health (M.P.H) from UAMS that same year.
Dr. Shnaekel described his eagerness to begin seeing and treating patients.
“I earned my undergraduate degree from Arkansas State University, and my wife and I love this region,” Dr. Shnaekel said. “It’s a privilege to join a solid practice already established at JOSM, including an incredible partnership with St. Bernards.”
JOSM orthopedic surgeon and St. Bernards Medical Group board member Dr. Jeremy Swymn described the addition of Dr. Shnaekel to the JOSM team as a homecoming.
“Dr. Shnaekel has the training, experience and skill our patients have come to expect,” Dr. Swymn said. “His credentials speak for themselves. He could have practiced anywhere, yet he chose to be here.”
An award-winning researcher, Dr. Shnaekel’s work has been published in numerous academic research journals. In addition, he holds memberships with American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Arkansas Medical Society.
Dr. Shnaekel lives in Jonesboro with his wife, Kelsey, an OB-GYN with St. Bernards OB-GYN Associates, and their two Corgis.
