The Crisis Stabilization Unit located in Craighead county has been established to serve those in need during a mental health crisis. The best candidates are those who do not have an acute medical issue and are not actively suicidal or homicidal. Anyone with these feelings should call 911 or report to the nearest Emergency Room.
Who are some of the people that the Craighead County Crisis Stabilization Unit Helps?
- Individuals 18 and older with a mental health impairment that want help or are willing to receive help (mental health impairment is defined in Act 423 as a substantial impairment of emotional processes, the ability to exercise conscious control of one’s actions, or the ability to perceive reality or to reason, when the impairment is manifested by instances of extremely abnormal behavior or extremely faulty perceptions that interfere with one (1) or more activities of daily living.)
- Individuals experiencing trauma (crime victims, crime witnesses, severe distress and unable to cope safely at home).
- Those impacted by other trauma events or displaying severe emotional shock and needing emergency mental health care
- Individuals experiencing hopelessness, contemplating suicidal thoughts or homicidal thoughts, experiencing agitation, hallucinations, delusions, and with arbitrary levels of drugs/alcohol.
- Those experiencing severe distress due to significant loss or traumatic life events (death, losing custody of children, etc)
