Our vascular surgeons and cardiologists at St. Bernards Heart and Vascular - Jonesboro offer all aspects of cardiac care in Arkansas. Our Jonesboro cardiologists are extensively trained in both the invasive and the noninvasive areas of cardiac care. Because each of our heart doctors and vascular surgeons in Arkansas is an expert in his or her particular heart care area, you may have an occasion to have both of these groups involved in your care. The noninvasive Cardiologist is specially trained in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, stress testing, carotid and vascular imaging, preventive cardiac care, risk factor identification and modification, research participation, as well as levels of acute care. The invasive Cardiologist is trained in the areas of cardiac cath balloon angioplasty, atherectomy, pacemaker insertion, preventive cardiac care, risk factor modification, research participation, as well as all areas of acute cardiac care.

St. Bernards Heart & Vascular has received three of the highest annual awards bestowed by The American Heart Association based on its response in providing rapid, research-based care to heart attack patients.

These awards, known as the Get With The Guidelines® Mission: Lifeline® awards, provide a national initiative to advance care for patients with acute, life-threatening or quality of life-threatening diseases. In particular, St. Bernards Heart & Vascular received a “Gold Plus” award for treating patients experiencing an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)—a heart attack that mainly affects the organ’s lower chambers and changes how electrical currents travel through them—and a “Gold” award for treating a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), which occurs when a portion of the heart does not receive adequate oxygen.

Cardiac Diagnostic Lab

Echocardiography: An echocardiogram uses ultrasound to create images of the heart to identify how well the heart pumps blood and to identify infections and structural abnormalities.
Electrophysiology: Study and testing of the electrical currents which generate heartbeats.
Stress tests: Stress testing usually involves monitored exercise, most often on a treadmill. These exercises provide your cardiologist information about how your heart performs under physical stress.

CT scans give the cardiologist pictures of the heart from which he or she can see problems, including calcium build-up, also known as atherosclerosis.

Addition of TransCarotid Artert Revascularization (TCAR)

Dr. Matthew Hendrich & St. Bernards Medical Center was first in the region to offer innovative TCAR (TransCarotid Artery Revascularization) procedure to treat Carotid Artery Disease. This new procedure lowers Stroke Risk.

Minimally invasive procedure for stroke prevention

Dr. Hendrich stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to offer a new, safe and effective treatment for carotid stenosis. TCAR or TransCarotid Artery Revascularization, allows us to place a carotid stent through a small incision at the base of the neck in a minimally invasive approach while simultaneously and temporarily, reversing the blood flow in the affected carotid artery. This technique dramatically decreases the stroke risk associated with carotid stenting and offers a clinically proven, minimally invasive, and safe alternative for patients who have certain risk factors that place them at high risk for traditional open carotid surgery. The addition of TCAR to our vascular program here at St. Bernards truly allows us to offer the most comprehensive and effective treatment of carotid disease to the patients of this wonderful community.”
