Job Shadowing
Get a firsthand look into the life of a healthcare professional. If you’re in eighth grade or above, you may follow a hospital employee for a few hours as they complete daily tasks. Opportunities are available year-round in:
- Non-patient care areas – Eighth grade and above
- Most patient care areas – 10th grade and above
- Emergency department – 12th grade and above
- Surgery and behavioral health – College or medical students
Students in junior high or high school may shadow an employee for two hours. College-student job shadows last four hours.

Patient Ambassador Volunteers
Help others while gaining familiarity with hospital and healthcare settings. If you’re a high-school or college student who’s at least 15 years old, apply to our Patient Ambassador Program. You’ll find opportunities in:
- Hospital floors – Escort patients and families to their destinations; tend to patients’ needs for ice, snacks and blankets; and answer phones and call lights
- Total Life Healthcare – Help seniors with activities such as Wii, arts and crafts, walking and exercising
- Clerical settings – File paperwork, make copies, run errands and answer phones
- Information technology (IT) help desk – Help with computer password resets for staff, set up computer stations and answer phones
Requirements for Patient Ambassadors
You must volunteer two hours per week until you serve a total of 40 hours within the school year. You’ll need references from teachers, employers, coaches or other adults who know you well but aren’t related to you.

We have currently fulfilled all of our slots for this year's program. We will begin accepting new applications in the Fall of 2026.
Junior Volunteer Summer Program
If you’re ages 15–18, you can apply for a three-week volunteer program held each July from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. three days a week. You’ll spend two days each week in a patient care area. On Fridays, you’ll take part in an Education Day and enjoy hands-on demonstrations in areas such as:
- Heart care
- Laboratory sciences
- Nursing
- Pharmacy
- Radiology
- Surgery
After an interview process, 16 students are chosen to join the program each summer. This is a great program for those interested in exploring healthcare as a career and is designed to encompass volunteerism and education.
