I had the privilege of having Shereka as my mentor during one of my NICU rotations. She was truly the definition of what it means to be a nurse. She thoroughly assessed and advocated for her patients while providing compassionate education to their families. She walked me through everything going on and included me in the care team. Not only did she care for her patients, she helped with any patient in the unit, without even being asked. She offered a helping hand multiple times throughout the night. Anything she did, she did with a smile. As a new student coming up, it can be nerve wracking trying to find your place in the nursing world. I hope every baby nurse finds their Shereka. She is an excellent role model and I hope one day to be as great as a nurse as she is.
