In 1967, the starting pay for Part-Time Switchboard Operator/ Clerical Staff was $0.75 an hour and full-time was $1.25. The only patient rooms that had phones were the private rooms and our “In-House Phone Directory” was on one piece of paper. Switchboard was also on the old pull-and-plug phone system.
