Attend the surgeon’s 2 hour educational seminar. (Register under the “I Qualify” tab.)

First appointment with the surgeon will be scheduled.

If you have insurance coverage, the precertification letter will be sent after your first appointment with the surgeon.

Pre-operative tests as needed will be scheduled, such as upper GI, psychiatric evaluation, nutritional evaluation, etc.

10-20% excess weight loss. This 10-20% excess weight loss will decrease your risk of injury during surgery. It will help shrink the liver and the fat surrounding your stomach, which will make your surgery “easier” to perform.

Pre-Admission Testing or PAT visit along with your pre-operative mandatory education class will be scheduled.

Support group attendance is highly recommended.

Self education– Read books, surf the web and talk to patients that have had weight loss surgery.
