A womans journey through life takes her through various stages including adolescence, childbearing years,
midlife and senior adulthood. At St. Bernards, we are committed to providing women with the means to stay healthy
throughout all of them. To this end we have created a unique series of womens services to meet the ever-changing
needs of the female patient. Through an always growing number of programs, we offer long-term wellness solutions
which include educational, diagnostic and ongoing patient care services.
- Labor, delivery and postpartum care occurs in the same room
- Joint mother/baby care: A nurse provides care to the family, improving education and continuity.

A full-time Board Certified Lactation Consultants, Lactation Counselors and Lactation Educators provide the following services:
- Education and evaluation of new mothers who are breast feeding in the inpatient setting.
- Follow-up phone calls 24 to 48 hours post-discharge to breast feeding mothers who experience difficulties.

- St. Bernards joins other leading hospitals and affiliated physicians nationwide in Womens HeartAdvantage, a program to battle heart disease, the leading cause of death in women.
- Program is designed to increase awareness of heart disease in women through education and preventive screenings.
- Dedicated team of registered technologists specializing in abdomen, pelvic, breast, thyroid, scrotum, obstetrics and vascular studies in both men and women.
- Ultrasound Assisted Procedures: Breast Core Biopsy, Breast Mammotome Biopsy, Breast Needle Localization, Thyroid Biopsy, Liver Biopsy and Cyst Aspiration.
- A diagnostic mammogram provides information for a patient with suspicious abnormalities. Diagnostic mammograms and/or breast ultrasounds are viewed and interpreted by the radiologist at the time of service. A follow-up report/letter is then sent to the referring physician and patient.
- Biopsy procedures available: Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Mammogram-Guided Needle Localization.
The Breast Assured grant is funding available to women who do not have health insurance and do not qualify for Breastcare, Medicaid or Medicare. Breast Assured will cover screening and diagnostic mammography, as well as breast ultrasounds if necessary. Patients may apply for this program by requesting a form when registering for their mammogram at any St. Bernards mammography location.

- The Care Navigator provides one-on-one care for the breast cancer patient by ensuring that each patient has a continuum of care from screening to diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
- Patients and their families/friends receive education and counseling prior to breast biopsy and assistance with scheduling of such procedures. The Care Navigator also ensures the patient receives follow-up care after the biopsy.
- A Care Map (Educational Packet) is given to those patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer.
- Breast cancer discussion series are held monthly providing support, information and education to patients, family and friends.
- St. Bernards has two additional Mammography Centers providing routine screening mammograms located at St. Bernards Women's & Children's Services, 800 South Church, Ste. 202 and 300 Carson at Clopton Clinic for patient convenience.
- The mobile womens health unit travels to industry worksites and clinical facilities to increase access to the services on board for women who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
- Available services include screening mammography, osteoporosis and bone density screenings, blood pressure checks, smoking cessation education and an opportunity to have blood drawn for a complete lipid profile with heart attack risk assessment.*
- An education coordinator provides education to the facilities visited by the mobile unit in the areas of breast health and heart attack risk factors specific to women.

* There is a separate fee charged for this service. However, St. Bernards Development Foundation has funds available, secured through grants and private donations, to assist women who qualify.
