How Well Do You Know Your Heart?, St. Bernards HeartCare Community Seminar

St. Bernards Medical Center will host a free seminar on heart disease on Thursday, May 8. “How Well Do You Know Your Heart?” is scheduled for 6-7 p.m. at the St. Bernards Auditorium, 505 East Washington Avenue. The program is designed to increase awareness about the prevention, detection and treatment of heart disease and will feature a presentation by Dr. John D. McKee, cardiologist with Cardiology Associates. He will discuss heart function, symptoms of heart problems and treatment options. Following that, a panel of heartcare physicians will answer questions from the audience. In addition to Dr. McKee, panel physicians will include Drs. Roger D. Hill, cardiologist with Cardiology Associates; and F. Roosevelt Gilliam III, medical director of the St. Bernards electrophysiology department who also is a cardiologist with Cardiology Associates; and Dr. Richard Stevenson, cardiovascular surgeon with Heart Surgery Associates of Arkansas who serves as medical director for cardiac surgery, the cardiovascular intensive care unit and the progressive care unit at St. Bernards. The seminar is open to the interested public free of charge. Reservations may be made and additional information may be secured by calling the St. Bernards HealthLine at 931-5055.

ADULT DIABETIC SUPPORT GROUP

This program provides the most up-to-date information for diabetics regarding blood glucose monitoring, nutritional counseling, complications from diabetes and the latest medical interventions. HEART CLUB

HOSPICE SUPPORT GROUP

This is open to anyone in the community who has experienced the death of a loved one. Beginning this month, the Hospice Support Group will meet at the BRAND NEW Jonesboro Senior Life Center, located at 700 East Washington Avenue, which is right across the street from the Craighead County Health Department & Agricultural Extension Office. BREASTFEEDING AND BACK TO WORK

PRENATAL BREASTFEEDING CLASS

This class offers breastfeeding advice for new moms and is taught by an internationally board certified lactation consultant. Please bring a doll, as well a pen and paper with you to class. THURSDAY NIGHT CHILDBIRTH SERIES
Thursday, May 8, 15, 22 & 29, 6:30p-9:00p
This class is offered every Thursday night through the month of November. The dates are November 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd. It presents information on labor, delivery, post-partum and newborn care. Patient pre-registration is available. Cost of the class is $50, with the fee due on the night of the first class. Please bring one pillow and a partner. Mom may bring one person with her at no additional charge ? dad, grandma, a friend, etc. Any other person may attend the class for an additional $10. WEEKEND CHILDBIRTH MARATHON CLASS
Saturday, April 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., St. Bernards Imaging Center
This class presents information on labor, delivery, post-partum and newborn care. Patient pre-registration is available. Mom should bring a partner and one pillow. Cost for the class is $40, with the fee due at the beginning of class.
