The Women’s Advisory Council of the St. Bernards Development Foundation will sponsor a free quilt show in Jonesboro Saturday, June 12 & Sunday, June 13 called Threads of Life.
The show, which is expected to attract quilters from at least a three-state area, will feature quest quilter Debra Danko. Debra is an internationally recognized contemporary fabric artist, lecturer, & workshop teacher. She is well known for the large-scale realistic images in her floral art quilts. 10-15 of these quilts will be displayed at this year's quilt show.
Scheduled for Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Threads of Life will be held at the St. Bernards Auditorium, 505 East Washington. No admission will be charged.
Members of area quilt clubs and other quilters from Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee will display some of their favorite works, which you will have the chance to vote on for the "Peoples Choice Awards." And antique quilts – those at least 50 years old – also will be displayed in a special area.
This year's quilt show will feature a silent auction. Show attendees will be able to bid on small quilted, hand-made, knitted items, and more. All proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House.
The health awareness component of the program will focus on hospice care. Hospice is a special concept to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a terminal illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. This program will discuss the types of hospice care that St. Bernards provides.
Quilt show attendee's will also have the chance to participate in sewing yoga. Certified yoga instructor, Kat Robinson, will have three free 30-minute demonstrations, Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
This year's raffle quilt was donated by Sister Mary Ann Nuce of Holy Angels Convent in Jonesboro. The quilt, titled "Hearts & Vines", is 90x93 in size. All proceeds from the sale of tickets for this year's raffle quilt will go to the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House at St. Bernards.
Quilt raffle tickets may be purchased from the Foundation office (400 East Street), from members of the Women’s Advisory Council and at booths at the HMG Health and Fitness Expo at the Arkansas State University Convocation Center on April 10-11 and at the Threads of Life show. The quilt will be raffled at the Threads of Life Quilt Show on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.
