A total of 1062 new cancer cases were entered into the Oncology Data A total of 1062 new cancer cases were entered into the Oncology Data Center database in 2005. The table on the previous page shows the distribution of these cancer cases by site and stage.

The map in Figure A shows the number of cancer cases by counties in the 23-county St. Bernards service area.

It was estimated that 14,950 new cancer cases would be diagnosed in 2005 throughout the state of Arkansas, with an estimated 1,372,910 new cancer cases for the entire nation. Thus Figure B reflects the four major sites diagnosed at St. Bernards in comparison to the statewide and national data. The incidence comparison shows lung cancer still represents the highest incidence rate at St. Bernards followed by breast, colorectal and prostate cancers.

As noted in Figure C. the largest number of cancer cases at St. Bernards was diagnosed in patients from 55-79 years of age, with 65 being the mean. The gender breakdown of the total caseload at St. Bernards stands at 50 percent female and 50 percent male, while national numbers indicate a 48 to 52 ratio, female to male.
