K. Bruce Jones M.D., F.A.C.S
Cancer Liaison Physician
St. Bernards Cancer Program has earned the highest approval bestowed by the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer. Just slightly more than one-fifth of the nation’s hospitals have received this rare designation from the Commission, which was established in 1956 to improve cancer care. More than 80 percent of patients newly diagnosed with cancer are treated in a Commission-approved program.
To the community and to patients, this approval demonstrates a willingness to commit the resources necessary to provide the very best cancer care.
To facilitate optimum care, a Cancer Liaison Physician serves as an intermediary between the Commission and a hospital’s cancer program. He or she also assists in the coordination of services with, and serves as an education resource for, the American Cancer Society. The physician’s other responsibilities include outcome evaluations for the various cancers treated at St. Bernards compared to national data. All of these evaluations are submitted as part of the Commission on Cancer’s approval program.
